Ivan is a mastermind, Becoming one of the legends of this club would be an honor: Milos
After an extraordinary comeback against Goa following consecutive defeats in the Indian Super League, Kerala Blasters FC are now set to take on Bengaluru at their home ground. Earlier in the season, the Blasters had defeated Bengaluru FC in the opening match in Kochi. Milos Drinicic, the strongest horn in the defensive fortress of the club, has been a crucial presence in all of Blasters’ successes. As the league is approaching its final stage, Milos opens up about his experiences with Kerala Blasters and his hopes for the title.
- Kerala Blasters is often regarded as a dream club for many footballers entering the Indian Super League, given its significant impact on the league and Indian football as a whole. Considering this, how would you describe the atmosphere and experience here at Kerala Blasters FC?
Ans: Kerala Blasters is definitely a dream club if we talk about the Indian Super League. It’s an incredible feeling to be part of a club that boasts the largest fan army in India, and one of the biggest in Asia. The energy and passion of the fans is huge. The atmosphere during home matches is something truly special with a full stadium of spectators. There are also a lot of traveling fans for away games.
- At 25 years old, you’re still in the early stages of your career with plenty of potential ahead. Looking towards the future, how do you foresee Kerala Blasters FC fitting into your career? Where do you see the club’s role as you progress and grow professionally?
Ans: I love football, and I live a professional lifestyle. I aspire to have a long career, and I believe I am currently in the early stages of my journey. I think I can achieve significant success. Kerala Blasters FC is a prominent team in Asia, and playing here can open doors to opportunities, particularly catching the attention of bigger names. However, even if no big clubs approach me with offers, I have no qualms about staying here with Kerala Blasters for many years. Becoming one of the legends of this club would be an honor.
- Adding to that, Ivan Vukomanovic is one of the all-time best managers in the league, known for his visionary approach and ability to maximise the potential of his players. How would you describe the impact he’s had on your game since joining Kerala Blasters FC? Also, what do you think about his plans for you specifically?
Ans: Yes, he is a very big coach and an exceptional individual as well. Ivan Vukomanovic extends his assistance to everyone, both on and off the pitch. It’s truly a pleasure to work with him and have him as our coach. He’s a mastermind, and his tactical approach varies for each match. This makes it much easier for us players because everyone knows their role, and our task is simply to execute it on the pitch. Since the day I arrived, I’ve played every match for the full 90 minutes, and I’m grateful to the coach for that opportunity.
- Coming to the game, great comeback on last Sunday after back-to-back disappointments. How do you currently feel about the team’s performance and morale?
Ans: It was a great game, and many have dubbed it as one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the ISL. Being a part of that is truly amazing. I am proud of my team. Once again, we’ve proven that when we’re on 100 percent of our motivation and ability, we can do everything.
- Kerala Blasters’ Defence line-up was one of the strongest in the league at the start of the season. But if we look into the last few matches, defensive errors have led to conceding goals and subsequent losses. Your comment?
Ans: I believe we have the best defense in the league, but it’s important to remember that defense isn’t solely the responsibility of the four players designated in the defensive line. Defending requires the entire team to be committed and organized. Unfortunately, we’ve faced challenges due to numerous injuries, which have led to frequent changes in our starting lineup. As a result, it becomes challenging to maintain consistency, since we aren’t used to each other.
- Injury is a major concern for the club at this point of the season. Restless matches are one of the reasons. How comfortable are you and the team with the current match schedules?
Ans: Yes, we are having many injuries concerns. Many of our players, including some key ones, are sidelined due to injuries, which undoubtedly makes things more difficult for us. In their absence, each one of us needs to give more than 100% to compensate for their absence and maintain our performance level. On a positive note, the situation has provided opportunities for younger players to step up. I think now we are doing good.
- Considering the current standings and performances, how realistic do you believe the chances are for Kerala Blasters FC to win the league title this season? What factors do you think will be crucial in the journey?
Ans: To the day we have a chance to win we believe in this dream. We put in the hard work each day because we’re committed to achieving that goal. We still have faith that it’s possible. But we bust go game by game and try winning each match as it comes, giving our best until the very end, and hoping that our efforts will ultimately lead us to success.
- What do you enjoy most about your current role in the club, and what do you find most challenging?
Ans: I thoroughly enjoying my time here. I take pride in the fact that I’ve played every match that I’ve been eligible for, except for the few I missed due to suspension. I aspire to be one of the leaders on the team and make a significant impact here. I am really happy with this and I believe that I will grow day by day.
- Transitioning to a new environment can present various challenges, particularly in terms of technical support such as conditioning and fitness. How do you rate the technical support you’ve received here?
Ans: We are fortunate to have an excellent coaching staff and a highly skilled conditioning coach. We put in a lot of work to ensure that we are in peak physical condition because this league is demanding and competitive. It’s crucial to be prepared and fit for every game. We engage in rigorous training sessions both on the pitch and in the gym to ensure that we are ready to face all challenges that come our way. With our dedication and preparation, I believe we are well-equipped to tackle whatever obstacles may arise.
